Former Ghana player, Mohammed Gargo says his Back Starlets team of 1991 is the best youth team the country has ever produced.
Gargo was a member of that incredible crop who became the first African nation to win the World Cup at that level.
That team scaled past Cuba, Uruguay, Qatar and Spain in the final to win it. But it was that game against, Brzail that did the magic. Ghana beat Brazil 2-1 in a game Gargo scored in.
“It was good. We had a fantastic upbringing as far as football is concerned. We were able to be successful in 1991. 1991 brings a lot of good memories.
That squad had an abundance of talents. Alex Opoku, Dan Addo, Emmanuel Duah, Osei Kuffour, Odartey Lamptey, Yaw Preko and others.
It was a different generation altogether. I will classify my time as the best National u17 team that Ghana has every produced..” He told TV3.
Gargo went on to play for the Black Stars, captain Udinese and Genoa and play a pivotal role in the progress of African players in Italy.
