Spokesperson for President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 Presidential Election Petition, Buaben Asamoa has described as a ‘late call” an application by the petitioner, John Dramani Mahama, for a live broadcast of proceedings.
According to him, the Justices at the Supreme Court had already made an arrangement for the hearing to be live on TV.
Speaking on Akoma FM 87.9MHZ Midday News on Thursday, the former Adentan Member of Parliament (MP) told Kwabena Nyamekye “even before Tsatsu Tsikata arrived at the court room, the television crew was already in position, it appears to me he didn’t take his time to observe the courtroom.”
According to Lawyer Buaben Asamoah C.I. 99 gives the court power to allow a live broadcast of proceedings.
He however claims “Tsatsu insisted he defended his clients position on convincing the court to accept a live transmission of the 2020 election petition,” which the legal team for the 2nd Respondent considered unnecessary.
A member of the petitioner’s legal team, Abraham Amaliba says they thought pre-trial was going to begin on Thursday, nonetheless, they are ready to defend their case on January 19, 2021.
