The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as “needless exaggeration” claims by the NDC and its flagbearer John Dramani Mahama that government is embarking on an ethnocentric agenda to disenfranchise some Ghanaians as elections draw close.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, National Chairman of the party Freddie Blay noted the strategy by the former president can best be described as “inferior communist tactics”.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has recently accused government and the president of supervising an exercise to prevent ‘Voltarians’ and other non-Akans from participating in the ongoing registration exercise.
But Mr. Blay says the claims are baseless.
“Our brothers and sisters of the NDC are desperately trying to undermine the simple civil and peaceful exercise of voter registration into one of ethnocentrism and through outright fabrications and needless exaggerations,” Mr. Blay told a press conference to mark Founders’ Day in Accra.
He charged Ghanaians to “reject the former President John Mahama’s ‘hate for vote’ campaign and vote for a party that cares about the welfare of the people”.
Mr. Blay noted people of the Volta Region must not to be used as political pawns by the opposition in their quest to champion what he describes as “dangerous ethnocentric agenda”.
The NPP believes it has done enough to earn the endorsement of Ghanaians for another four years – but only the December 7 vote, would determine.
