Former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, who is also Member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency, has been declared recovered from Covid-19.
This was contained in a letter signed by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, to him.
Mr Ahenkorah came under pressure and condemnation for breaching Covid-19 isolation rules by visiting some polling stations at the start of the new voter registration while a carrier of the virus.
He had justified this by explaining that he had self-isolated for more than 10 days as all asymptomatic carriers of the virus were required to spend.
But pressure on him – particularly as his action was seen as a dent in the government’s fight against the spread of the virus – saw him to tender in his resignation from the Ministry of Trade and Industry on Friday, July 3.
Others still wanted him to be withdrawn as Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 elections.
But before that demand sees the light of day, GHS says his recovery confirmation results have obtained two consecutive negatives.
“For this reason, you are deemed to have recovered from COVID-19 infection, and so can return to work.”
But he has been asked to still observe all the safety protocols as his new status does not mean he is immune from contracting the virus again.
