Ghana’s Covid-19 cases have risen by nearly 2,000 cases within two days.
After recording the country’s highest infections of 992 on Monday, July 6, Tuesday also saw the confirmation of 891 new infections.
At the Ministry of Information bi-weekly press briefing on the virus on Tuesday, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye confirmed that Ghana’s cumulative case count since the outbreak of the disease in March stands at 21,968.
This, he said, comes from a total of 316,798 individual tests conducted over the period.
Fortunately, 17,156 persons have recovered and been discharged from the disease while 4,683 are under care at treatment and isolation centres across the country.
Some of these active cases are also under home care, he said.
Twenty-two of these patients are said to be in “severe” conditions with six on ventilators.
So far, 129 persons have died from the virus.
