Four persons have died and several others injured following an accident at Anoff on the Nsawam-Adeiso road.
The accident on Tuesday morning involved a Toyota Hiace H100 and a Tipper Truck.
The Toyota Hiace was from Asamankese to Accra while the Tipper Truck with registration number GT 9928-20 was from the Nsawam area believed to be heading to a sand-winning site.
Eye witnesses said the accident occurred around 7:30am after the Toyota Hiace did a wrongful overtaking while speeding.
The two vehicles had a head-on collision.
Residents had to rescue accident victims as they made distress calls to the police.
Three died on the spot with several other passengers sustaining various degrees of injury.
The fourth victim died at the Nsawam Government Hospital.
The Nsawam Divisional Police Commander, Miriam Adu Osei-Owusu, and her personnel were at the scene to help control the situation after responding to the distress calls.
They had a hard time controlling traffic on the road at the same time rescuing accident victims stuck in the vehicles.
Miriam Adu Osei-Owusu said investigations had begun.
She, however, cautioned drivers to avoid unnecessary overtaking and speeding.
“In accidents, we lose lives and properties [so] I want to caution drivers to avoid the unnecessary overtaking and overspeeding that leads to avoidable road carnage.”
Several of the injured victims are receiving care at the Nsawam Government Hospital.
