Chief Executive Officer of Proud United, Ronald Joojo Duncan has disclosed to Onua 95.1fm Sports that the nationwide 18-club Division One League proposed by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association is not in the statutes.
Speaking to Onua sports on Monday, Joojo Duncan said “If you look into the statutes I don’t think there is a specific instruction on that. All it says is that instead of 48 votes we will only have 18 votes in congress within two years; it doesn’t say a league of 18, so there are some contentious interpretations of the statutes.”
The CEO who is also the owner of the Kasoa-based division one side further stated that the there is a problem already therefore the Executive Council shouldn’t add another.
“How is the 18-club Premier League going, what sort of patronage are they getting at the gates and what sort of sponsorship are they having?’’ he asked.
He explained that the current state is like a three-legged stool on two legs, clearly showing that things are not going on well. How they are going to constrict 48 division one clubs into 18 was his major worry and questioned the fate of the remaining 30 teams
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a decision to form a five-member committee for the implementation of the transitional provision on the number of participating clubs in the National Division One League.
The committee will comprise of three representatives from the division one clubs and two from the Football Association to advise the Executive Council on the format, the possible name of the new 18 clubs Division One League, the phases of the implementation, whether or not a third tier league will be required.
