Zoomlion conducts massive fumigation, disinfection exercise at KIA, 3 other airports

Ghana’s main airport, the Kotoka International Airport, and three others in Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale have been fumigated and disinfected against the deadly coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The tarmacs, parking lots, arrival halls, passenger terminals, VVIP terminal at KIA, offices, lounges and shops within the airports were all fumigated and disinfected Tuesday by Ghana’s waste management giant Zoomlion.

At KIA, the entire environ including a project site and its clinic was disinfected.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has through its Vector Control Unit been at the forefront of the fight against the virus which has so far infected 1,671 people in Ghana and killed 16 of them with 188 recovering.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Zoomlion has been fumigating and disinfecting a number of tertiary institutions across the country, state agencies, churches among others as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The initiative, the company explained is aimed at supporting the government’s efforts in containing this global pandemic which has overwhelemed health facilities across the globe and crashing economies.

Head of the Zoomlion disinfection team, Rev. Kwame Addae, disclosed that the exercise which was done simultaneously was aimed at keeping the airports safe and to prevent the spread of the virus.

Minister for Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda, who monitored the exercise at the KIA, expressed the government’s appreciation to Zoomlion and its partners for their continuous selfless support in the country’s fight against COVID-19.

He said the exercise was targeted at making sure that all the airports in the country were safe for use.

Mr Adda announced that domestic flights which were affected by the travel restrictions, will resume operation from May 1.
