A sixth person has died from the novel coronavirus in Ghana as 198 new cases of the deadly virus ballooned the country’s count to 834 cases Saturday afternoon.
The new cases, according to the Ghana Health Service, are from the over 12,000 backlog of samples piled up at the various testing centres across the country.
For almost 72 hours, the figures remained 641.
“This does not represent new infections that are occurring. It represents results from tests of a backlog of samples,” the GHS explained in its latest update on the country’s covid-19 situation.
It said the various laboratories have been working around the clock to test this large number of samples, stating “hopefully in the next few days, all the testing would be completed”.
According to the health officials, the results of these backlog of samples when released, does not mean the number of new cases recorded on the day of the report.
