Central Region has become the seventh region in the country to record a case of coronavirus.
The case, involving a 57-year-old man who returned from the UK on Tuesday, March 17, was confirmed by the Central Region Minister, Kwamena Duncan.
So far, 13 contacts of the patient have been traced.
The Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Akosua Owusu Sarpong, said the specimen of the man was sent to Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research (NMIMR) after he showed symptoms of the virus.
The Region becomes the first after Greater Accra, Ashanti, Upper West, Northern, Eastern and Upper East regions to record a case of the deadly viral disease.
“I want to use this opportunity to ask all of us to remain calm that but for the surveillance of the Response Team of the directorate and all stakeholders who are working round the clock to ensure that if anybody had it, the radar will be on them and we will close in around them and to ensure that it will not further spread,” Mr Duncan said.
The enhanced contact tracing around the country has seen about 19,276 persons reached.
The Central Region has seen over 500 contacts traced with 140 already tested negative.
Ghana’s total tally as of Wednesday, April 8 is 313.
Six persons have lost the fight and have given up the ghost while three have beaten the disease.
