Concerned Staff from the Finance Office of University of Education-Winneba (UEW) has denied pleading with the former Finance Officer, Bruno Chirani, to withdraw a suit filed against the university, its Vice Chancellor and Registrar for the termination of his appointment.
The Staff had paid a visit to the former Finance Officer a few weeks ago but say the visit was out of their own will, and that they were not sent by the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar as reported in some sections of the media.
A statement signed by Convener of the Staff Emmanuel Botwe said they did not in any way ask Mr. Chirani to withdraw the suit and return to work.
“…For emphasis, the appointment of the Finance Officer is the exclusive preserve of the University’s Governing Council and once Council already had one in office, there was certainly no grounds for us to overturn the decision of our employer.
“We wish to correct the impression created as follows; That we went to visit Mr. Bruno Chirani on our own accord as Concerned Staff of the Finance Office who are worried about the continual absence of our former boss from work for a considerable time.”
The Concerned Staff also denied advising the former Finance Officer to return to his post as Deputy Finance Officer in charge of the Institute for Educational Research and Innovative Studies (IERIS) since the consequence of staying at home could be fatal if he failed to report to work within ten days clause.
“We, the Concerned Staff want the public to be wary of the information they receive on UEW issues on mainstream and social media.
“There are unscrupulous people out there who want to make political gains out of UEW issues to achieve their selfish personal interests,” they warned.
