Engineers of the Ghana Railway Company Limited will today September 17 test run the 56-kilometre rehabilitated Takoradi-Tarkwa rail line in the Western Region.
Two trains for the test will move from the Takoradi Harbour and Kojokrom at exactly 9:30 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. respectively on Tuesday.
The test run, which will be witnessed by Railway Minister Joe Ghartey, is expected to continue until the line is certified to be safe for shuttle services.
Management of the company said it will announce operationalisation date once the lines get safety certification.
Deterioration of the Western rail line caused a total of 700 major and minor incidents, including derailments.
Rehabilitation works commenced in September 2017 as part of government’s effort to improve the rail sector.
The line is an economically viable and critical part of the 340 km Western Rail Line due to its importance to mining companies, including the Ghana Manganese Company Limited.
