Former presidential staffer and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, seems not to be convinced that former minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba, resigned from politics to spend more time with her family.
Otiko Afisa Djaba Monday communicated to the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, her decision to resign from politics stating “At 56 years, I want to relax and enjoy my family and life and, therefore, I am not ready to take up the appointment as Ambassador to Italy”

This follow’s Nana Akufo-Addo’s first ministerial shakeup which saw Otiko Djaba reassigned to Italy to head the Ghana Embassy.
But Dr. Apaak, who is also a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, thinks the reasons Madam Afisa gave for her decision to resign only amount to “making excuses”.
In an interview on 3FM’s Sunrise with Winston Amoah, Dr. Apaak claimed Madam Afisa’s resignation is more about her reassignment than her family or age.
“Yeah she is making excuses, the truth is that she is not satisfied with this new assignment and I think all the circumstantial evidence will point to that”, he said.
Apaak believes Madam Afisa is dissatisfied with the ambassadorial appointment.
“And I know she has been very coy and diplomatic preparing some reasons to justify she doesn’t want to go represent us in Italy including the need to spend time with her family and take care of her ailing ex-husband as well as matters of age but between you and I these factors have always been there”, he said.
He maintained that had she been gratified by the appointment she would not have resigned.
“The fact is that the woman feels that she has not been fairly treated and she probably feels that the arrangement was not fair to her and therefore has decided to call it quit. If she was satisfied with that assignment clearly she would not reject it,” he observed.
Dr. Apaak again observed that the reason for her alleged resentment could be because the reshuffle took only her out of government, something he describes as unprecedented.
“It is quite surprising, and that is why I say unprecedented that in the President’s first reshuffle she seems to be the only one who was dropped from government and that is a fact at least in as far as the executive is concerned it is clear that she was dropped”, he said.
