The group has expressed worry that since the appointment of Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor five months ago, not much has been done for the Office to start work.

Leader George Anti noted on 3FM’s Sunrise on Friday that it has taken government too long to set up OSP, with which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised to fight corruption.
OSP as promised by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will deal specifically with corruption issues in the country.
A board was on Thursday inaugurated to govern the Office five months after the appointment of Mr Amidu.

However, there have been reports the Office has not been fully resourced to be able to start work, a situation that has raised questions about government’s commitment to fighting corruption.

Notably, anti-corruption crusader Vitus Azeem has noted the reluctance of government to resource the Office shows government is “not serious” about it.
“Looking at the speed with which the bill was passed and [Martin Amidu’s] appointment and especially when the President appealed to Parliament to do the vetting on time, one would have expected that by now, everything would have been set,” Mr. Azeem had said in a radio interview.
Citizens Movement also expressed the same worry that up till now OSP is still not fully resourced.
According to the group, now that the board has been inaugurated, the resourcing plan of the Special Prosecutor must be known because “we don’t expect him to undertake this service with private funds”.
George Anti observed that since the NPP promised to use the Office to fight corruption, it was their expectation that everything needed to prosecute that agenda will be made available.
He stated that even though there is high confidence in all the appointees of the Office, “that confidence is meaningless if there are no resources to work with”.
“I have every confidence in the board that has been duly inaugurated; I have confidence in the Special Prosecutor himself,” he said.
