The presidential staffer, Dr. Louise Carol Serwaa Donkor, who received backlash for denigrating footsoldiers of the New Patriotic Party with her comments, has been suspended for 30 days by the presidency.
Commenting on a Facebook post about how not to deal with foot soldiers as a principle, Dr. Donkor, a Policy and Communication Analyst at the presidency, encouraged her friend who made the post not to tolerate footsoldiers.
“You shouldn’t, you can’t reason with them (footsoldiers),” she commented on the post, and stated footsoldiers are “like tribalist”.
Dr. Donkor is also a known member of the controversial feminist group which has gain popularity in the country for its standpoint on some issues bothering on feminism.
The comments triggered calls from footsoldiers within the NPP for her to be sacked, more so for having the effrontery to denigrate the very people whose efforts and toil led to the electoral victory of the party in 2016.
Some of them took to social media to condemn her for making what they termed reckless statement when in fact she is at the presidency enjoying the fruit of their labour.
Though she has since apologised for the comments, many have viewed her apology as a defence.
In the midst of the issue, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare on Tuesday wrote to the Special Advisor to the President on SDGs, Eugene Owusu, to suspend Dr. Donkor for 30 days for such “unsavoury comments”.
“…You are directed to suspend Dr. Donkor from office for a period of thirty (30) days beginning the 13 day of June, 2018,” the letter copied to Dr. Donkor read in part.
The letter did not say whether Dr. Donkor will receive salary for the days that she will be on suspension.
She is however to “render, in writing, an unconditional apology and commit to good behaviour,” the letter added.
