Owner of the locally manufactured gun used by a six-year old boy to kill his four-year-old brother is to spend two the next weeks in custody.
The 70-year-old pensioner, Benjamin Tetteh, was arraigned on a negligence charge Friday morning at the Somanya Circuit Court in the Eastern Region.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the court remanded him for two weeks to allow the police conclude investigations into the case.
Police told the court Friday that the six-year-old, Jerry Amanor, who was traumatised by the shooting incident, has since been taken to a psychiatrist.
The incident
Jerry was said to have ‘mistakenly’ shot dead four-year-old brother Alex Ologo Amanor at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo district of the Eastern Region.
His brain gushed out in the process, witnesses told 3news.comResidents said the tragic incident occurred at about 2:30pm Thursday April 19, 2018.
Tenants in the house said they heard a gunshot and rushed into the room only to find the four-year-old boy motionless in a pool of blood.
Parents of the children were not at home at the time of the incident.
The body of the deceased has since been taken to the Atua Government Hospital for autopsy.
The Somanya police said the locally manufactured gun used by the boy was not registered and belongs to his grandfather.
