President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated in clear terms that Ghana would never allow the United States of America to establish a military base on its land.
Addressing Ghanaians Thursday evening on the US military cooperation agreement that was ratified by Ghana’s Parliament on March 23, 2018, the president also rejected claims by his political opponents that he is selling the sovereignty of the nation.
He considered the sovereignty comment, which has been hyped mainly by functionaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress as defamatory, something that has incurred his outrage.
No Request from US
President Akufo-Addo stressed: “So let me state with the clearest affirmation that Ghana has not offered a military base, and would not offer a military base to the United States of America.
“Indeed the united States of America has not made any request for such consideration. in consistent with our established foreign policy we will not consider any such request
considering the reality of our circumstance and challenges to peace in our region, we deem it prudent to continue with the agreement with the USA.”
