The lecturer at UEW are still on strike
The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has asked the University Governing Council of the University of Education, WInneba (UEW) to do everything legally possible to see to the fair resolution of the legal tussle and reinstate Vice Chancellor Professor Mawutor Avoke, who has been asked by the Winneba High Court to step aside as soon as possible.
The Association has described last month’s injunction order by the High Court as fundamentally and fatally flawed as same are not and cannot be supported by the available evidence.
At a press conference held by UEW’s chapter of UTAG, leadership claimed the two principal officers, particularly the Vice Chancellor, have done nothing wrong in the circumstance to warrant their current state of injunction.
The lecturers, most of whom wore red dresses and arm-cum-head bands to register their displeasure, said under no circumstance in the current situation should the appointments of these officers be terminated.
UEW’s UTAG President Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe, who signed and read the statement, said decisions including appointments made by the Vice Chancellor before the injunction should be respected as legitimately made and same should not be varied, reviewed or revoked without just cause.
The Association, which was marking a month since Winneba High Court’s decision, referred to the court’s injunction as an academic coup d’etat.
According to them, failure to meet their request will lead to nationwide strike action.
