Janet Amponsah missed a place in the women’s 200m semi-finals at the ongoing IAAF World Athletics Championship after placing fourth in Heat 5 on Tuesday night.
Janet Amponsah could have secured an automatic place in the semis but for a daunting run by France’s Estelle Raffai.
The Frenchwoman beat the promising Ghanaian athlete on the finishing line in a race won by Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith.
Asher-Smith won with a time of 22.73s, followed by Canada’s Crystal Emmanuel (22.87s) and Raffai (23.72s) in that order.
Ghana’s outstanding female athlete for 2015 came a close fourth in the race with a time of 23.77s, way below her personal best time of 22.9s set three months ago.
Amponsah’s performance closes the chapter for Team Ghana in the individual events. None of the athletes went beyond the first round with Emmanuel Dasor not starting his 400m event at all.
