The Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Ekwow Spio-Gabrah, has accused the ruling NPP government of using threats of lay-offs in the public sector as a means of providing jobs for party supporters.
According to Dr. Spio Gabrah, the “ploy” by the NPP government is not only happening at the levels of managing directors and boards but in various government institutions.
Speaking with Winston Amoah on 3FM’s morning show Sunrise, Dr Spio-Gabrah said the sudden intention of government to lay off some public sector workers is as a result of open threats from vigilante groups and party supporters asking for jobs they are not qualified to do.
The former Trade and Industry minister lamented the father-for-all policy under the late President Atta Mills by which some NPP appointees served under him for 10 months and more has been thrown to the dogs.
“There is going to be a lot of law suits very soon,” he said.
“Letters are flying all over the place. They are using political supports rationalization to remove people and replace them with party supporters.
“NPP is under pressure to find jobs for political supporters and that is why the language of Senior Minister is reflecting such threats.”
Commenting on NPP’s accusation of employing people in the dying minutes of the NDC government, Dr. Spio-Gabrah said NPP should supply the full list of people improperly employed.
He stated, however, that one of the contributing factors of NDC’s loss was their inability to employ the number of people they wished to employ.
